GDNM.org version 3.2 Posted by: Tom
Just another quick little addition, inline login and the logout redirects back to the blog you were on which is nice, also fixed a couple of bugs which sneaked back in between 3.0 and 3.1.
This is what inline login looks like, you can try it for your self just click the ‘Login/Register’ link.

It has occoured to me to make a list of changes:
3.1
- Added a Green option for the front page status message
- Added more items to the footer
- Theme option added to allow the footer to be toggled on and off
- Footer now works on either of the 3 column sizes
- Year X added next to the latest post for each course
- Fixed a few layout bugs
- Latest posts titles are now capped at 35 characters in length
- Version number now shows in lower right hand corner of footer
- More theme options added to allow easy customisation of colour scheme
- Comment icon matches the theme
3.2
- Added inline login
- Logout sends you back home rather than to the login screen

GDNM.org version 3.1 Posted by: Tom
Everyone has been automagically upgraded to GDNM.org 3.1 which should affect only those who were using the black theme, which sadly no longer exists because the ‘Theme Settings’ page under ‘Apperance’ in your admin area has got the flexibility now to allow you to easily customise the settings of your blog.
Its going to be a pain for those who were using that theme to have to type out and figure out their colour scheme so as I have had to do the same for the Output blog which was the original black theme, I have provided the details of what colours work well below…
One of the best new things is that the hover colour also applies to the comment icon, and there is now no footer menu by default unless you want it on.
Also one of the oldest parts of the site was the Motion page which was using verion 2.4 of GDNM.org’s theme, it had not been migrated with the new 3.0 because it used a very specific theme of its own, however with 3.1 its not bang up to date.
Finally although not recent news, we did upgrade to WordPress MU 2.8.6 last week so I thought I’d share that with you all incase your having troubles you know where to email!
Recreating the black theme settings…
Primary text colour: #f7f7f7
Secondary text colour: #ffffff
Link hover colour: (what everĀ you like we used – #ec008c)
Page background colour: #333333
Body background colour: #000000
Border colour: #f0f0f0
User bar colour: #222222
Selected colour: #444444
If you use these colours you should get a near perfect replica of the old GDNM Black theme but it will now work on 1, 2 and the original 3 column layout.

UPDATE: Blog issues Posted by: Tom
There are currently two known issues…

The Add media buttons are not visible when creating a post but work fine when editing…
Work Around: For now just save the post and continue editing to get the media buttons.
The preview post button does not work or causes the site to ‘crash’.
There is no solution to this at the moment.
The issues have been reported to WordPress I am waiting for a solution sorry folks.

Please don’t create multiple blogs if you run out of space. Posted by: Tom
If your running out of space, please do not create multiple, blogs.
The reason for the 50mb limit is not to stop you being creative but is a practical limit on our resources.
We simply do not have the space nor the ability to provide you all with hundreds of megabytes of space.
If we did you would have it as we know images require large amounts of space.
During the workshops you were all told about websites like flickr, photobucket and others.
We suggest you make use of these other sites as they will provide you will more space in the long run.
In future anyone creating multiple blogs to circumvent the file size limit will have the new blog(s) suspended.
I am sorry that we have to impose this limit and we are considering alternatives to this limit but for now it will have to remain.

New features! Posted by: Tom
After popular request and people hacking their own CSS into the works (MySpace style) heres the new features…
+ Custom background image (with tiling option)
Please choose approriate images.
+ Custom CSS (if you know CSS)
Please do not override the basic layout of the site, i.e. the menu bars. Login/out links and footer, also try not to put images over these elements as it stops people naviateing the site and will result in your CSS being removed.
+ Blog list
You can see all student and couse blogs listed at http://gdnm.org/blogs
+ Front page images
The images on the front page rotate randomly so if you think your work should be in these boxes please submit it to admin@gdnm.org for consideration. We are also looking for images of the UCA Epsom campus to put in that box so send those too.
Any features not listed here that your dying to have?
Email admin@gdnm.org and we will get back to you.
p.s. We are aware that if you had an account prior to the breifing on how to create a blog (this option was not previously available) then you will need to email admin@gdnm.org with your username and your desired subdomain….
i.e. http://subdomain.gdnm.org
We will try and set these up as quickly as possible but it can take a bit of time.
Thats all for now, thanks to all those who have really gone for it in trying to make their blogs look great.
